Steamed Bangus



Steamed Bangus is a simple dish that can be prepare easily and can only takes a few minutes of preparation and cooking time.

Since bangus or milkfish is abundant in the Philippine waters it is a common type of fish used for cooking in every Filipino household.  It is also known as the Philipine National Fish.

Bangus is known for it's delicious belly fat and abundant fish bones.  And to address this unwanted fish bones you can now buy boneless bangus in most wet markets and supermarkets ready for cooking. 

For this Steamed Bangus recipe, we need a boneless bangus and a few spices that will give aromatic and distinct taste to the dish.

Here 's how to cook Steamed Bangus.

Preparation Time:   5 minutes
Cooking Time:       10 minutes
Total Time:             15 minutes
Servings:                 2 - 3 

 Ingredients:

  • 1 boneless bangus
  • 5 cloves of garlic
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 2 fingers turmeric
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 siling haba
  • a pinch of salt
  • a pinch of peppercorn
Material:
  • You can use either a foil or banana leaves to cover the entire bangus during steaming process.  Banana leaves provides aromatic smells to the dish.



How to Cook:
  1. Clean the boneless bangus well, remove the scales. 
  2. Put bangus in the foil or banana leaves.
  3. Sprinkle salt and peppercorn in the entire body of the bangus.  Pat them well so the taste will spread evenly in the fish.
  4. Add garlic, onion tomatoes and turmeric.
  5. Beat eggs and spread it the entire fish.
  6. Add siling haba.
  7. Once all toppings had been added, cover the fish with the remaining foil or banana leaves on top.
  8. Put the fish in the steamer with generous amount of water enough to steam the fish.
  9. Let it steam for 10 minutes until cook.
Served it hot with vinegar and garlic as condiment and of course, with your favorite steamed rice!
