Marinduque Island has such a distinct and interesting spot in our Philippine archipelago map. It lies at the upper center of the Philippine map which makes it looks like the heart of the Philippine island image. Thus, Marinduque is proud to carry the monicker of the Heart of the Philippine Island.
Aside from getting this distinct pride, Marinduque Island is also known in the Philippine Festival Calendar as the home for the Moriones Festival. A festival that was held every Lenten Season which depicts man's triumph of goodness over evil.
The province can also boost of it's good natural resources and beautiful beaches and mountains. Not to mention the hospitality of the natives where you will always feel at home.
I had been in Marinduque province a lot of times. My husband comes from this province. But it is only now that I admit that I was able to appreciate the beauty of the island. Looking back, the first time that I set my foot in the island my first impression is that more of "panghihinayang". I felt bad for the island and it's people because I think the island has the tourism potential. However, sad to say the island had been a little laid back in terms of development. I believe if only properly governed and promoted Marinduque can be at par with other Philippine islands who are all vying for the top posts in the most visited tourism destinations in the country.
Someday, I hope Marinduque will also be one of them.
Our 2018 family summer vacation in the province is I think something I would never forget. For one, I was happy that after so many years some valuable development has transpired in the province. It was good to note that in Sta. Cruz province, I had noticed that there are new commercial establishments in the area. Groceries, atm machines, banks and auvs plying in the streets are now making lives easier for the locals and tourists.
Old historical churches are also noticeable. One of them is the Sta. Cruz Church built in the 1600s at the height of the Spanish era.
Now, the island is attracting tourists because of its new destinations such as the Maniwaya Beach Resort, Palad Sand Bar, Tres Reyes Island, Ungab rock formation and Bathala Cathedral Cave. Adding to it, is the high-end resort in the the formerly known elephant island now known as Roca Bella Hotel and Resort. But for those who are in a low budget but would like to take advantage of the summer in the island, some beautiful beaches can also be enjoyed. One of them is the Poctoy White Beach in Torrijos.
Really the Philippines is so much blessed with several islands and provinces which showcased the abundance of our natural resources.
